Douglas S. Bell, M.D., Ph.D. is a general internist and researcher focusing on the design and evaluation of health information technology. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA and a Research Scientist at RAND, where he recently led one of the electronic prescribing pilot studies authorized in the Medicare Modernization Act to evaluate standards for advanced e-prescribing transactions. Dr. Bell previously led a 3-year study that developed expert panel recommendations for e-prescribing and evaluated their implementation among commercial systems.


Dr. Bell is currently the co-director of UCLA?s Practice-Based Research Network, which is charged with developing systems for integrating research studies into routine clinical care environments. Dr. Bell played a major role in the design of UCLA Medical Group?s quality improvement data repository, ensuring that its structure also supports its use for analyzing clinical performance at the physician and office level, as well as the effects of process changes over time.


Dr. Bell brings his experience in evaluation research to Infoshare as a major contributor to the clinical web portal evaluation.
