InfoShare Overview

Background information about the UCLA InfoShare project.
UCLA received funding from the National Library of Medicine IAIMS program to "disseminate, discuss and define the role of integrated information management resources and systems in education, research and patient care for the UCLA academic health sciences center in the 21st century". The grant was awarded in two phases designated as Planning and Operations. The planning phase lasted from 1999-2002 and consisted of research to identify the information network, resource and service needs of faculty, staff, and students at the UCLA Health Care. For more information, visit the archived InfoShare Planning phase Web site.

The UCLA InfoShare project is currently in Operations phase through 2008. The overall goal of this phase is to make available patient information for research, education, and clinical care. This is achieved by integrating existing information systems within UCLA Health Care through the development of a Clinical Information Network Exchange (CNEX). Details about specific goals...

Funding Support
Since 1984, the National Library of Medicine has offered grant funding in the form of IAIMS projects to medical centers and health sciences institutions to build infrastructure for electronic information management. IAIMS stands for Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems. InfoShare is the central body responsible for the IAIMS Operations grant (NLM/NIH 5 G08 LM007851) at UCLA. InfoShare is the name given to the UCLA IAIMS project in order to emphasize collaboration and the sharing of information.
